Technology at St Brigid's

St Brigid's has a one on one Acer Chrome Book program from Grades 3 to 6. We use Google Educational Products as well as Microsoft Office.

Foundation to Year 2 students have a well-equipped lab, of 21 Acer Desktop All In Ones with touch screens as well as two banks of 15 Apple iPads.

Through the hard work of our school's PFA and the generosity of the parents attending their functions, we were able to purchase 12 LEGO sets of  Simples Machines and 12 sets of Powered Mechanisms.

Simple Machines Set and Curriculum

This kit allows us to engage the students with hands-on tools to introduce the principles of; gears, levers, pulleys, wheels and axles.

This set of bricks/blocks etc. allow the children to build 16 simple machines and problem-solve a number of activities.

 Students record predictions and investigations.

We use LEGO kits to support our teaching of CODING and STEM

Powered Mechanism Set and Curriculum

These sets allow the children to build real-life machines that incorporate; gears, levers, pulleys, wheels and axles.

This set of bricks/blocks etc. allow the children to build 10 basic models and 18 main models.

It covers concepts of forces and motion, energy and structures.

These sets include lesson plans and student record sheets.

There are real-life video clips and 20 lessons that investigate the concepts of force, equilibrium, friction and mechanical advantage.

Sphero Robots

Once again the PFA raised enough money to allow us to purchase 2 x 12 set of Speros in a custom recharging cases.

Sphero is a spherical robot designed by Sphero. It is a white orb wrapped in polycarbonate, capable of rolling around, and controlled by a smartphone or tablet.

In Foundation, Year 1and 2, we have the students doing computational thinking and problem solving with the Sphero Draw and Drive app. They draw a shape, then

Sphero moves in the shape they draw.  They can try to navigate around objects and iterate their thinking, adjust their designs, etc - but without needing to read and

write.  It's more educational than just using the regular Sphero navigation apps but less difficult than coding.

Years 3 to 6 move over to coding on their Chrome Books. Moon Rescue example
